Choose a mechanism. Define roles, shared memory and an experiment for your task.
- Memory · Linepithema humile
Trail-based research swarm
Reduce repeated research while retaining provenance and freshness.
- Decisions · Apis mellifera
From honeybees to a decision protocol
Independent proposals, counterevidence and bounded decision rounds.
- Communication · Sturnus vulgaris
Neighbourhood-based communication
Bound communication with local work groups while keeping critical information reachable.
- Organization · Isoptera · TERMES
Dependency-driven construction swarm
Produce in parallel with visible task ownership and intermediate artifacts.
- Adaptation · Physarum polycephalum
Utility-adaptive communication graph
Update communication paths using measured contribution and monitor single-link dependence.
- Decisions · Collective motion · Couzin model
Specialist-guided small-model team
Spend a limited specialist budget on the task's critical uncertainty.
- Organization · Vibrio harveyi
Evidence-threshold task gate
Open the next work stage when independent, valid inputs are ready.
- Communication · Photinus carolinus
Checkpoints for an asynchronous swarm
Combine independent work at controlled intervals and handle stragglers explicitly.
